Reaction in Kiev to martial law
(27 Nov 2018) The 30-day martial law imposed by Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has taken effect in 10 regions in the country bordering Russia and Maldova.
Analyst at the Ukrainian National Institute for Strategic Studies, Petro Burkovsky, explained that martial law includes limitation of certain constitutional right of the citizens, but "these limitations should be strictly written and should be very specifically organised under the law."
He also added martial law was imposed first of all to regulate the actions of law enforcement agencies, security service and military in case of any threat from Russian side.
Martial law was something Ukraine avoided doing even when Russia annexed its Crimean peninsula in 2014 or sent in clandestine troops and weapons to insurgents in war-torn...

Kiev officials say convoy move "flagrant" violation of international law
(22 Aug 2014) Ukraine on Friday criticised Russia for sending more than 130 aid trucks into rebel-held eastern Ukraine without the approval of the government in Kiev.
Andriy Lysenko, spokesman for the Ukrainian National Security Council, said the convoy had entered Ukrainian territory "without customs control or border service clearance, and without being accompanied by ICRC representatives".
Frustrated by a week of delays, Russia sent the convoy in, a move Ukraine called a "direct invasion" that aimed to provoke an international incident.
Danylo Lubkivsky, Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister, called it "another flagrant violation of the fundamental principles of international law, including the inviolability of borders, non-interference in the internal affairs of another state and bona ...

Kiev end ceasefire- impose martial law
A Donbass Battalion representative read out a petition to President Poroshenko on behalf of Ukrainians, with a demand to "stop the truce, impose a martial law in the country, provide the military with necessary armaments and measures to destroy terrorists and request the EU and the USA to impose a third round of sanctions against Russia."
The demonstrators called on the newly-elected president to "listen to the real holder of power -- the Ukrainian people."
They added that if the president didn't "hear their demands," they would "consider him a traitor of the country" and "he will share the same fate as ousted President Viktor Yanukovich."
On Monday, Donetsk self-defense forces joined the ceasefire, and on Friday the truce was expended until June 30 at 10 p.m. local time (18:00 GMT). P...

Martial law was something Ukraine avoided doing even when Russia annexed its Crimean peninsula in 2014 or sent in clandestine troops and weapons to insurgents in war-torn eastern Ukraine.
On Sunday, near Crimea, Russian border guards rammed into and opened fire on three Ukrainian navy vessels travelling from the Black Sea towards a Ukrainian port.
The Russians seized the ships and their crews.
Ukraine considered the 24 captured men to be prisoners of war and said some had been seriously injured, while Russia said they were individuals who had violated its border.
The clash raised the spectre of renewing a full-blown conflict in eastern Ukraine and saw Russia strongly criticised at the United Nations by the United States and its allies.

Danylo Lubkivsky, Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister, called it "another flagrant violation of the fundamental principles of international law, including the inviolability of borders, non-interference in the internal affairs of another state and bona fide fulfilment of international obligations by the Russian Federation."
Earlier Ukraine's Foreign Ministry issued with a statement accusing Russia of "ignoring international rules, procedures and agreements that have been reached."
The unilateral move sharply raised the stakes in eastern Ukraine, for any attack on the convoy could draw the Russian military directly into the conflict between the Ukrainian government and the separatist rebels in the east.
Ukraine has long accused Russia of supporting and arming the rebels, a charge that Russia denies.
In the past few days, Ukraine said its troops had recaptured significant parts of Luhansk and suspicions were running high that Moscow's humanitarian operation may instead be aimed at halting Kiev's military momentum.
After spending hours on winding country roads, the convoy began pulling into the hard-hit city of Luhansk, which appeared to be mostly in the hands of the rebels, on Friday evening.
Fierce fighting has been reported this week both around Luhansk and the largest rebel-held city, Donetsk, with dozens of casualties.
Last week, after the Russian aid convoy left Moscow, Ukraine mounted its own humanitarian operation for those affected by fighting in the east.
The rebels have said, however, they will not allow that material to enter their territory.
The fighting in eastern Ukraine began in mid-April, a month after Russia annexed Ukraine's southern Black Sea peninsula.
It has killed over 2,000 people and forced 340,000 to flee, according to the United Nations.

Poroshenko declared that after the ceasefire ends, those militiamen who failed to lay down their weapons in eastern Ukraine "will be destroyed."
The Ukrainian army is set for "tough actions" after the end of the truce, Ukraine's Interior Minister Arsen Avakov reiterated on Friday.

Prenups, Cohabitation, Family Law & Divorce In Ukraine. Kiev Street Survey vs. Facts!
Did you ever wonder what percentage of couples sign prenuptial agreements in Ukrainian marriages?
So, here’s the actual hard states in Ukraine: 2002 to 2017
... there were 15,000 prenups signed by newly married couples in Ukraine out of a total of 250,000 to 300,000 marriages in Ukraine. If you do the math, that's less than 5%!
So you can see, prenuptial agreements (marriage contracts) are very uncommon in Ukraine!
Now, let's go a little bit deeper on Prenups in Ukraine!
I’ve spoken to countless Ukrainian ladies over the years and asked what they think about marriage contracts. Well, they've said they don’t like them, because in Ukrainian culture they believe marriage is sacred. They’re in love , they’re looking forward to spending the rest of their lives together and building a happy family. They don’t look for the bad to happen.
They are not so guarded as we are in the North America. But they really don’t have divorce rape here either. And in fact, if translate divorse rape into Russian language, they don’t even know what does it means.
Are you wondering, how is it possible that Ukrainian women don't even know what divorce rape is? Strange, right?
Reverse Divorce Rape! Ever heard of it?
Well in fact, it's a little known fact in the international dating world that
there is indeed divorce rape in Ukraine, but it's reversed. That's right, wives in Ukraine get the short end of the stick instead.
So, here’s what Ukraine lawyers have told me.
What the law provides for is that men and women each will leave the marriage with the very same assets they enter the marriage with.
So, let’s say you have a $1M in your name and she has $100k in her name. In the event of a divorce, you'll both leave each the same $1M (husband) and $100k (wife). It’s ONLY assets that you’ve built up during your marriage whether it be 1 year or 10 years, it doesn’t matter. It’s only those assets that will be divided equally, 50/50!
It’s kind of like a prenuptial agreement in of itself, like a built-in asset protection system.
